Science Fiction? We don’t need no Science Fiction.

Apparently Harlan Ellison is dying. He’s also attending one last convention which is going on right now. So if you can get there, you should do it. Unfortunately for me it’s in Madison, WI, which precludes my attendance.

If you haven’t read any of the 1000+ works of fiction this man has written, then get to work. It’s damn near impossible to call yourself a fan of science fiction if you haven’t read him. If you’re a Trekkie, you’ve obviously seen The City on the Edge of Forever which Ellison wrote.

He’s had a fabulous life and has palled around with some of the best writers in the 20th century. He’s also won a shitfuckton of awards and that doesn’t even begin to cover what an all around bad-ass writer he is.

So go out and read something he wrote or watch a film in which he was involved. You’ll be glad you did. I’m going to make a point to curl up with the film version of A Boy and His Dog this weekend in honor of his final convention appearance.
